Jessie’s new house

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

These are pictures of Jess & RObert’s new house in Columbus. The house is a double just like ours, and it has a nice back yard that is fenced in. It’s a block away from our front yard, on a nice quiet side street just north of Hudson. I haven’t seen the inside yet, but from the outside it looks like a good catch.

Life on the farm

well, we have had a great weekend! we had a yard sale and turned lots of stuff into hard cash.. ( "to fill the holes" gramma nanna’s phrase..which is why (other than aunt savannah) she took in old ladies, which is why there is a country rest home in greenwood.. hmm where might this lead?) ..well, lets say that isaac and zion had a yard sale….we discovered who the real barterers in the family are.. isaac is shameless, and gets the big bucks!  after i sold a bowl for a buck that isaac said he almost got $15 for ten minutes before ( till the lady saw the ceramic chickens.. i owe you, jess. but i didnt sell the green and white delicious doorstops) isaac suggested that i stay in the house, so i only went up to tidy up and cover things when it rained..  the rain was worth it but it sure made a mess…josh eason bought the john deere and we loaded it onto his truck and he pulled out real slowly and the deere wanted to stay, so it did.   so he came back and we hitched it to his truck and  i pulled him down to his house with him having a happy cowboy time on the mower.. today i heard a motor and here he came, down the drive on the mower. he had gotten it running, of course. ‘’i just checked for spark and…"  i offered to buy it back for $20 more than he paid…evidently it wasnt as dead as we thot…. but he is planning to buy the place from his mom and wants to mow from george’s to our place..and clear the farm out again…. he got the majority of  the gumption in the family..skinny as a rail and works at the walmart distribution center throwing 11,000 boxes a nite (or something like that) wants to open an ace hardware store in salem,, if he can find a financial backer..loves the ‘how things work’ website.. needs help finding the door to his dreams, has lots of ideas and no one to help him know how to get there… he stayed and ate cookie dough with us…..  we were cranking ice cream  and eating cookie dough and frank (pigeon)  flew down to get a bite cause his dish was empty and he was hovering over me and all of a sudden bibb (half cat/ half kitten) leaped up and snagged him.. i screamed at him (bibb) and threw my cookie dough at him and my water glass and finally threw the cat, and the pigeon flew away…by then bill and josh had come running and bill threw his water at the cat who disappeared for awhile.. so tomorrow we will see if the bird has any ill effects from spending time in the cats mouth and see if the cat has any ill effects from being struck with flying objects or from being flung against the leg of the trampoline.. speaking of birds in peril.. a week or so ago a hawk hit the kitchen screen, trying to get miss maudie in her cage by the window.. i look up and there is this big bird "eagle spread'’   ( ?) on the screen glaring at me..it jumped back into the flower bed and then hit again… and 10 min. later tried again..knocked the screen loose….cant you just see it if a hawk succeeds in getting into the kitchen?  now all you kids are big kids now so who do i tell stories too?  not that you are so dreadfully interested in the cats and birds, but the story habit dies hard..

tears

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

isaac said that i should write to you all and tell you that i read   ‘’the tenth good thing about barney”’ with OUT crying..guess that i’m getting old and hardened….

AND ken and terry laura  (nee anderson) spent the eve and nite here .. on their way from baltimore to co. springs.. with a u haul .. they are back from the ivory coast and sudan and iraque (they flew from morocco where their batteries were confiscated at the airport, their conclusion was that they needed batteries in morocco) and solo dios sabe where else..planning to chill in co..  for a while tending to family and friends.. and ken is delightful and cracked digennaro jokes and i missed you all..and terry still looks 30 rather than 48.. and loves you all and looked at pictures of how you had grown and how handsome you are..
and ailene and allan said that they heard aram preach in va.  a couple of weekends ago they were properly impressed. so i vote that aram preach at our next get together so that i can hear him..
how about thanksgiving?  i have begun to lighten ship..if you want it, come and get it.. or call/write and tell me..tools? old water hoses, too rotten to use? bicycle wheels? canning jars? old coveralls?assorted screw drivers? pieces of metal? pipe? a broom maker? water heater tanks? feed trough?  how about school desks from pittsville? house plants? poms de terre? scott plastic? rat wire? blue barrels? buckets with small holes drilled in the side?  dried possum remains?  speaking of possums .. ..
the other nite i heard quite a ruckus outside..something/one …. sounded like someone walking around in the dark in an unfamiliar place and running into things and snorting snuffling about it all .. so bill and i went out to investigate and it was an armidillo.. evidentally cant see, hear or smell and was rooting thru the flower bed (a.c.)and under the deck looking for worms and leaping into the air when ever he crashed into a piece of metal or something.. so we got the broom and tried to encourage him to leave..when we poked him he would leap up into the air a couple of feet and then run a couple of feet and then go back to rooting till we poked him again.. it was a hoot but he was really messing up the flower beds ..like a hog rooting..so we kept poking and he kept jumping till we had shooed him over to the woods..   i understand that to jump into the air is one of his instincts.. how he copes with suprises and that is why the hiway mortality is so high because jumping two feet into the air isnt a good survival tactic when one is startled by a car.
sooooo,  this week’s plan is for bill to talk to some big honcho at umr on friday and if all looks good to start in jan… and a separate but parallell plan is to down size and get closer to town.
soooooo, that is the news from one step where isaac and zion are learning to be cheerful and the mate and pate ree-ark are happy as clams…con mucho carino a todos,, tu mama

David and Brooke had their baby on Tuesday morning around 5:00 am. They named her Sophia Joy. I haven’t heard the full account, but it sounds like it was a peaceful “uneventful” labor. hurray for new babies!
